Volunteer Opportunity – National Veterans Golden Age Games

As you may be aware, the 2011 National Veterans Golden Age Games (NVGAG) are coming to Honolulu, Hawaii, May 26 - 31, 2011.  The NVGAG is the largest annual senior Veterans’ games in the world.  We will have the great pleasure to recognize these heroes and thank them for the freedoms we have today.

Local hosts are working to make sure that the 2011 National Veterans Golden Age Games provide a fitting tribute to our nation’s senior Veterans.  We want to demonstrate our pride in our city and state, and give all visitors a memorable week at the Games.  Over 700 veteran athletes will be competing in the various sporting events including Nine-ball, Air Rifle, Bowling, Checkers, Croquet, Cycling, Discus, Dominoes, Outrigger Canoeing, Golf, Horseshoes, Shot Put, Shuffleboard, Swimming, and Table Tennis. These Games present a volunteer opportunity that may be new to many people, working with senior athletes in various levels of ambulatory and visual health.  We would like to invite the entire community to be a part of this special event.  The NVGAG could not take place without volunteers helping in all aspects of the Games.

From the time the athletes arrive in Hawaii until the time they board their planes for home, volunteers are needed.  Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to:

Welcoming arriving athletes at the Honolulu Airport
Helping with event set-up or take-down
Assisting Veterans to embark or disembark buses to and from their events
Provide support at every event, directly helping the athletes. For example at all sporting events they need water, and at other events they need timers, record keepers, and spotters
Preparing decorations for Opening and Closing Ceremonies

We will try to pair up the volunteers with a predisposition for a particular event to work in some capacity with that event.  There is sure to be a good match for everyone. I would welcome the opportunity to address the HPU Association of Diplomacy and Military Studies regarding this unique occasion.  I will contact you in the coming weeks to set up a time that will be convenient for your group, or feel free to contact me at 808-585-6191! I can also be reached via email at shelley@alaskadestinations.com

I look forward to sharing the National Veterans Golden Age Games volunteer opportunities with you. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
