ENG 3102: Nineteenth Century British Literature--Romantics and Victorians
Join the 19th century British book club.
Spring 2012 MWF 11:50-12:45 or online with Dr. Laurie Leach
This spring in ENG 3102: Nineteenth Century British Literature, we’ll enjoy several classic novels, from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. Each student will respond to four of these books with the choice of an online book review, a video review, an oral presentation or “a book trailer.” We will also compare and contrast our 21st century responses with the original reception of these novels. The class will be conducted simultaneously online and in a traditional classroom format with the reviews and trailers shared among the two sections. For inspiration and as a preview, click on some of the book trailers below. In between the novels we will read a variety of poems such as this beautiful sonnet by John Keats. Students will also explicate one poem and make a visual interpretation.
