Hedda GablerHedda Gabler

Henrik Ibsen
Directed by Joyce Maltby
April 5 - May 5, 2013

Thursdays - Sundays

Ibsen, the father of modern drama, created one of the most confounding and complex characters when he first penned Hedda Gabler in 1891. Since then, Hedda has become one of the most talked about fictional women in all of drama, "the female Hamlet." She bewitches her audiences, and over a century later still has the capacity to shock. Just back from her honeymoon and bored with her marriage and domestic life, Hedda manipulates her situation to devastating effect. Through Hedda, Ibsen reveals the bitter conflicts and thwarted longings that lie just below the "civilized" transactions of daily life.

GoodDoctorThe Good Doctor

Neil Simon
Nov. 2 - Dec. 2, 2012
Thursdays - Sundays (except Thanksgiving, which is moved to Nov. 21st)

Broadway mainstay Neil Simon takes us on a Chekhovian journey through the mind of the storyteller. Simon conjures a Narrator to guide us thru a series of sketches that explore the human condition. Heart-warming and infectiously humorous, these stories range from seduction to dentistry, from prostitution to auditions and everything in between. As Simon tells us, this is “not the Chekhov of The Sea Gull and The Three Sisters, but the young man who wrote humorous articles for the newspapers to pay his way through medical school.”

Director of Theatre, Joyce Maltby has cast twelve actors in Neil Simon's "The Good Doctor," four are HPU students and one is an HPU acting professor. On the production side of things, we are also please to have a student as our Hair & Make-Up Designer. Joined by community members and professional theatre artists, the ensemble cast and production team is below:
