Human Resource Development (BA)
This major provides the student with the opportunity to study the primary functions of human resource management with a strong emphasis on the development of human potential in organizations in both the private and public sectors. It is a program which provides the student with a foundation built on the psycho-social model of effective human behavior.
Program Goals and Objectives
Goal 1: Students should acquire knowledge in the following areas in order to perform effectively as HRD professionals:
- Objective 1.1 Describe the human life cycle in the context of career development.
- Objective 1.2 Discuss how adults learn.
- Objective 1.3 Describe the personal, familial, and social meanings of work.
- Objective 1.4 Describe the principles of diversity.
- Objective 1.5 Describe the principles of group behavior, including the role of teams in the workplace and principles of fostering teamwork.
- Objective 1.6 Describe the principles of effective interpersonal communication.
- Objective 1.7 Describe how the HRD function fits into organizations.
- Objective 1.8 Describe methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Objective 1.9 Describe principles of organizational development and change.
Goal 2: Students will be able to apply training and development methods to improve individual and organizational effectiveness by:
- Objective 2.1 Conducting effective training programs using a variety of methods
- Objective 2.2 Assessing the need for training and career/organizational development
- Objective 2.3 Designing training and development programs that meet identified needs
- Objective 2.4 Evaluating the effectiveness of training programs, using computer systems and other tools.
