Hawai‘i Pacific University’s academic year consists of two major semesters (Fall and Spring), a winter session, and several summer sessions providing a student the opportunity to take courses year round.
- Fall semester begins in early September (usually the day after Labor Day) and consists of 15 weeks including a week of final examinations. Within the fall semester are two 8-week sessions that run back-to-back; the early 8-week session (8A) begins the last week of August and the late 8-week session (8B) starts in mid-October and ends in mid-December.
- Spring semester begins in mid-January and is 16 weeks in length including final examinations but there is a week-long spring break in the middle of the semester. Within the spring semester are two 8-week sessions that run back-to-back; the early 8-week session (8A) begins in early January and runs through mid-March and the late 8-week session (8B) starts in mid-March and ends in early May. NOTE: Due to a transition in the academic calendar structure, Spring Semester 2014 8-week sessions will run immediately back-to-back with no spring break in between.
- Winter session is approximately 5 weeks in length and runs between the fall and spring semesters from mid-December to mid-January.
- Summer sessions vary in length but generally run from mid-May to early August.
